چکیده

In theoretical computer science, and, in particular, in automata and formal language theory, questions arise concerning words and sets of words in free monoids. Results and techniques from the study of the combinatorial algebra of the free monoid have provided an “algebraic” basis for dealing with many of these questions. In recent years there has been increasing interest in properties of words and sets of words in free partially commutative monoids or commutation monoids, that is, monoids in which some pairs of generating letters commute but no other relations hold. Some of this interest is due to the use of free partially commutative monoids in modeling problems of concurrency control in databases and parallel computation, as, for example, by Fle and Roucairol (1985); in a recent survey, Aalbersberg and Rozenberg (1988) have presented the connections between free partially commutative monoids and Petri nets. As in the case of free monoids, problems about words are linked to combinatorial properties, and the combinatorial algebra of free partially commutative monoids has

Partially Commutative Inverse Monoids

Free partially commutative inverse monoids are investigated. Analogously to free partially commutative monoids (trace monoids), free partially commutative inverse monoids are the quotients of free inverse monoids modulo a partially defined commutation relation on the generators. A quasi linear time algorithm for the word problem is presented, more precisely, we give an O(n log(n)) algorithm for...

Two Recognizable String-Matching Problems Over Free Partially Commutative Monoids

Let C be a finite alphabet, and C* the free monoid generated by Z. Let x, y E C* and x = uyv for U, v E C*. Then y is a factor of x. Moreover if u = 1, then y is a prefix of x, and if u = 1, then y is a suffix of x. Here 2. is the null word. One of the typical string matching problems over C* is the following: given a text string XEX* and a pattern string VEC*, decide whether or not y is a fact...

Solutions to Some Open Problems on Totally Ordered Monoids

In this paper solutions to three open problems on ordered commutative monoids posed in [4] are presented. By an ordered monoid we always mean a totally ordered monoid. All the problems are related to the class of ordered commutative monoids which are homomorphic images of ordered free commutative monoids.

Alphabetical Satisfiability Problem for Trace Equations

It is known that the satisfiability problem for equations over free partially commutative monoids is decidable but computationally hard. In this paper we consider the satisfiability problem for equations over free partially commutative monoids under the constraint that the solution is a subset of the alphabet. We prove that this problem is NP-complete for quadratic equations and that its unifor...

Public Key Cryptosystems Based on Free Partially Commutative Monoids and Groups

At INDOCRYPT 2003 Abisha, Thomas, and Subramanian proposed two public key schemes based on word problems in free partially commutative monoids and groups. We show that both proposals are vulnerable to chosen ciphertext attacks, and thus in the present form must be considered as insecure.
